If you are thinking of selling after the holidays you can get your home ready to market as you decorate.

Homes that have been well-maintained and convey pride of ownership appeal to perceptive, motivated buyers. Below are some simple steps you can take to ensure your home glitters for the holidays and is in “show shape” when you are ready to sell.

  • Wash the windows and window coverings before you add candles.
  • Select your favorite decorations and sell or give away what you don’t need.
  • Make your house “sparkle” especially in the kitchen and baths.
  • Clear and pack away clutter as well.
  • Clean your closets–extra storage space helps sell homes.

Then take a break to enjoy the season until after the holidays when you can  tackle the next steps.

  • As you take down decorations remove family pictures as well. The more you house looks like your home, the harder it is for buyers to imagine themselves living there.
  • Clean the basement and garage. Once again sell or give away what you don’t need and neatly stack and store what’s left.
  • Clean or replace carpets and/or other flooring, such as vinyl or hardwoods.
  • Paint or touch up any rooms that need it. Use neutral colors, which have more universal appeal.
  • Sell or store excess furniture.Your home’s cleanliness and appeal create an impression that can determine the likelihood of an offer.
